Let's check in...

Have you been carrying everything on your own?

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming. Most people find some way to get by until it passes, but for some people, it never quite does.

It’s normal to try to handle things on your own. Most people likely tell themselves they should push through, or that asking for help means something is wrong.
You don’t have to carry everything alone. Asking for what you need is difficult, but it’s one of the most important ways to begin caring for yourself.

Therapy offers a judgment-free space to be heard and to better understand what you've been carrying. I make it my professional mission to give you the tools you’ll need to find your way out of “survival mode” and back to yourself again.
How I can help

Finding the approach that works best for you

A "Listen First" Approach

Opening up can feel like walking a minefield of assumptions, reactions, and quick judgments. As your therapist, I will create a calm, patient, and safe space of positive regard, emotional understanding, and genuineness. I've found that just giving someone the opportunity to talk about an issue they've been holding inside has the potential to be hugely transformative.

A Balanced Skill-set

The most common complaints I've heard from clients about previous therapists is that they were either good listeners who didn't offer practical tools and knowledge, or that they were too practical and quick to assign solutions, homework, and worksheets. I make it a priority to do both: I balance patient, curious, empathetic listening with education and skills training. I want you to have a place to unpack and I want you to have the insight and solutions to one day be your own therapist.

An eclectic, tailored modality

My therapeutic approach features elements of...

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to understand and change the ways your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors impact each other to keep you trapped in the same habits and outcomes.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) to see how change isn't a linear, one-step process and to help you start to move forward when you feel stuck between conflicting desires.
  • Trauma Reprocessing ("The Empowerment & Resilience Treatment Structure" and "EMDR") to gently (and without the need for catharsis) help you calm your nervous system, re-establish a feeling of safety and stability in your life, and reclaim your authentic self.
  • Optional homework for you to continue the growth and healing process between sessions--where most of your life happens.

Together, we'll "feel and flex" to determine the best approach or mix of approaches for you to achieve your goals.

First Sessions & Treatment Plan
In our first session, we'll review some of the information you provided in the intake packet, discuss history of the problem you want to address with therapy, and plan goals (even if the goal is to come up with a goal. No pressure .) Depending on what you're dealing with, it's likely you'll leave the first session with some practical tools to begin feeling relief in your daily life right away.

Continuing Support
Based on my experience, I recommend at least the first 6 sessions be weekly. At that point, I like to review progress and update our treatment plan as needed. Some people like to continue weekly sessions from there, but others might prefer to start doing therapy biweekly instead. There's no one-size-fits-all for therapy, so I will work with you to tailor treatment to your individual needs.

About me

Hi. I'm Quinn.

I graduated with a Masters of Science in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University in 2016. I'm extremely grateful for the experience I gained after graduation where I worked in both substance abuse and mental health settings at all levels of treatment (residential, inpatient, in-home/community,  intensive outpatient, and outpatient). I've been passionate about psychology and mental health since my first psych class in high school, and my passion has only deepened as I've done my own "work" and shared in the work of others. Since graduating, I have continued my education and training with an emphasis on trauma treatment modalities including the Empowerment & Resilience Treatment Structure and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

In my free time, I'm a bit of a nerd and I enjoy tabletop games like D&D, online computer games, archery, battodo, playing guitar, reading sci-fi, and occasionally writing.
FAQs

Answering your questions

How long is a therapy session?
About an hour. It will usually be flexible depending on that particular session, but I aim for 53-60 minute sessions. I've seen some therapists that offer 30 or 45 minute sessions, but in my experience, that extra 15 minutes is where the session can really culminate into some of the most substantial content.
How much does therapy cost?
My normal rate is $175 per session. This price represents an attempt to balance accessibility with the quality of work I offer from my years of experience, continuing education and training, and focused areas of expertise and competence. However, I don't want price to be the reason someone who needs therapy doesn't start. For those cases, I accept several insurance plans and am usually able to offer a sliding scale fee. "No-shows" or cancelations with less than 24-hours notice are charged $65.
What insurances plans do you accept?
For Florida residents, I accept Aetna, Optum, Cigna, Oxford, Oscar, United Healthcare, Quest Behavioral Health, Carelon Behavioral Health, and UMR health insurance plans.
For New York residents, I can only accept self-pay.
Is it better to use self-pay or insurance?
That's up to you. Some clients choose to use insurance because their plan offers a lower out-of-pocket cost. Others choose to not use insurance for some of the increased privacy and flexibility that private pay offers. For example, insurance requires therapists to provide a diagnosis, treatment plan, dates of service, and services given. Though rare, they may also request clinical notes about particular sessions. Going private pay means those things remain between you and your therapist.
Do you offer online therapy?
At this time, I am exclusively remote. I connect with clients through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video chat. Telehealth adds an undeniable element of convenience for my clients, allowing them to better fit therapy into their schedule without having to leave their home or workplace. Scheduling, forms and documents, and video sessions are all handled through a secure client portal.
